BATON ROUGE, La. -- For the first time in five matches, Ole Miss netted the game's first goal but could not make it stand in a 2-1 loss to Auburn Friday in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament at LSU Soccer Complex.
Anna Sanders (4) put the Rebels up at the 10:05 mark with her second score in three games. Kristin Chapman set up Sanders, a junior from Fayetteville, Ark., at the right top of the box where she ripped the ball to the top left corner of the net.
Auburn tied the game six minutes later when Erin Hinson (2) headed in a Kellie Evans indirect kick. The Tigers then crawled ahead at 46:53 after Michelle Mione (3) chipped a Ginger Sellick pass over the goalie for the game-winner.
"It was a disappointing loss, but we made a great run in the tournament," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "We had so many injuries this season and in the tournament. The girls faced so much and responded so well.
"We didn't get the result today, but we had a great season. The girls should be proud."
Ole Miss finishes the year with a 10-10-1 mark, giving the Rebels their sixth consecutive season with a .500 or better record. The Rebels also advanced past the first round of the Tournament for the second time in three years.
Chapman, who was honored as an All-SEC first team selection on Wednesday, was named to the 2001 All-Tournament team. Also making the team was sophomore Tiffany Weiss, who netted both goals in the first-round win over Mississippi State, and freshman Kristal Menard.
Auburn (11-6-1) advances to play Florida in the championship game Sunday.
