OXFORD, Miss. - Alex Hartman, Kristofer Stahlberg and Paul Ciorascu of the Ole Miss men's tennis team are ranked among the top 100 in the final fall ITA National Rankings released Tuesday.
Hartman will begin the spring ranked No. 21 in the nation. A two-time All-SEC selection, Hartman is coming off an excellent campaign in 2001 in which he became the 16th All-American in the history of the program. This fall he reached the quarterfinals at the ITA All-American Championships as well as defeating the defending NCAA Champion in an ITF Futures tournament.
Stahlberg, one of two seniors on this year's team, will enter his final spring as a Rebel, ranked No. 51 in the country. He earned All-SEC honors in singles and doubles last year and qualified for the NCAA Championships.
"We are looking forward to a big spring, and these rankings show we are headed in the right direction," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Alex and Kristofer are two of the SECs best, and we will be counting on them to lead the team this spring."
Ciorascu makes his debut in the rankings at No. 64 after a successful fall. He reached the quarterfinals at the Omni Hotels Region III Championships and was a finalist at the Ole Miss Fall Classic. Ciorascu posted wins over four nationally-ranked players this fall.
"I am especially proud of Paul, who after struggling last year, has turned the corner," Chadwick said. "His debut in the rankings is a reflection of his determination and the hard work he has put in on the court and in the weight room."
The Rebels will open the spring season Jan. 17-20 at the SEC Indoor Championships, before hosting Arkansas-Little Rock Jan. 24 in the first dual match of the 2002 campaign.
