Men's Hoops Upends IUPUI, 77-70

EL PASO, Tx. (AP) - David Sanders scored 19 points to lead Mississippi to a 77-70 victory Friday night over Indiana-Purdue, Indianapolis, in a semifinal game of the Sun Classic Basketball Tournament.
Texas-El Paso defeated Mississippi Valley State 89-82 in the other semifinal. Mississippi and UTEP will play for the tournament championship Saturday night.
Mississippi (8-2) led by as many as 11 points, 69-58, with 5:12 remaining in the second half, before holding on for the win.
Emmanuel Wade and Aaron Harper scored 13 points apiece for the Rebels while Justin Reed chipped in 12 points and Jason Harrison added 10. Sanders led the Rebels with 5 assists and Derrick Allen led the team with 9 rebounds.
IUPUI (4-5) was led by Lance Williams and Brian Buchanan, who scored 14 points apiece. Charles Price added 13 points and a team-high 8 rebounds for the Jaguars. Matt Crenshaw had 7 assists..
Both teams shot 45-percent from the field but the Rebels ejoyed the edge from the free throw line hitting 16 of 26 while the Jaguars were 10-of-13.
IUPUI hit five of its 10 three-point attempts in the first half to take a 34-33 halftime lead.
