Ole Miss Women's Rifle Prepares For NCAA Sectionals

OXFORD, Miss. - After a record-breaking regular season, the Ole Miss rifle team is preparing for this weekend's NCAA Sectional Meet, hosted by Murray State. The top eight scorers in both smallbore and air rifle from various sectionals held around the country will advance to the NCAA Rifle Championships on March 8-10 in Columbus, Ohio.
"This is an opportunity for our team to accomplish one of our major goals, a berth in the NCAA Championships," said Ole Miss coach Valerie Boothe. "It's now time to see if the hard work our team has put in will payoff."
The Lady Rebels have set school records in both air rifle and smallbore this season. They set a record score of 1500 in air rifle at Jacksonville State on Nov. 19, 2000. They set the school mark in smallbore with a score of 4446 on Nov. 5, 2000, at the Buckeye Invitational, hosted by Ohio State.
Katie Trickett, a freshman from Woburn, Mass., currently holds Ole Miss records in both air rifle and smallbore. She set the school mark in air rifle when she fired a 388 at the Walsh Invitational on Nov. 3, 2000. She also set the school record in smallbore, firing an 1130 at the Walsh Invitational.
