Ole Miss Rifle Finishes In Seventh Place At NCAA Sectional

MURRAY, Ky. - The Ole Miss women's rifle team set new team standards at the NCAA Sectional Sunday. The Lady Rebels set new school marks in both air rifle and smallbore.
In air rifle, the Lady Rebels scored a 1504. The previous team record was 1500, set at Jacksonville State on Nov. 19, 2000. In smallbore, they fired a 4461. The previous best was a 4446, set at the Buckeye Invitational on Nov. 5, 2000.
Ole Miss finished in seventh place Sunday at the NCAA Sectional match hosted by Murray State. The sectional match is used to determine which teams will qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held March 8-10 in Columbus, Ohio. This year's qualifers will not be known until next week.
In air rifle, Katie Trickett fired a 387 for the Ole Miss. Misty Ballard shot a 382, which is a career-best. Her previous best was a 378, set at the Wolf Creek Invitational on Nov. 18, 2000. Kristin Parker scored 373 and Samantha Ball fired a 362. Maranda Stockton, who competed as an individual, shot a 369.
In smallbore, Ballard fired a career-high 1128. Her previous best was a 1121, set at the Buckeye Invitational on Nov. 5, 2000. Trickett scored a 1110 and Parker fired a career-best 1122. Her previous career-best was a 1111 at the Withrow Invitational on Jan. 27. Ball also fired a season-best with 1048. Stockton, who competed as an individual, scored 1118.
The Lady Rebels now await word from the NCAA on whether they will make a trip to the NCAA Championships.
