No. 5 Texas Outlasts Ole Miss, 5-2

OXFORD, Miss. - The fifth-ranked Texas Longhorns (4-0) outlasted No. 27 Ole Miss (5-4), 5-2, in women's tennis action at the Gillom Sports Center on Wednesday.
Texas took an early 1-0 lead by capturing the doubles point. The Longhorns won all three doubles matches. On court one, Janet Walker and Vladka Uhlirova defeated Ole Miss' Julie DeRoo and Audra Adams, 8-3. Kaysie Smashey and Michelle Krinke defeated Mira Radu and Karem Harboe, 8-4, on court two and Rebekah Forney and Joanne Masongsong got the win on court three, 8-3 over Alesya Ignatieva and Camilla Gould.
In singles, Walker, currently ranked 13th , knocked off DeRoo, 6-2, 7-6, on court one to give Texas a 2-0 lead. Radu defeated Smashey, 7-6, 6-4, on court three to get Ole Miss on the board. Uhlirova held off Ole Miss' Ignatieva, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, on court two to push the Longhorns out to a 3-1 lead.
Texas clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court five as Masongsong defeated Florencia Basile. Sabrina Peppl scored the Lady Rebel's second point as she defeated Krinke, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 on court six. Texas' Forney outlasted Harboe on court four, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5, to claim the Longhorn's final point and the 5-2 win.
"I am very proud of our team," said Ole Miss head coach Jerry Montgomery. "Our girls showed a lot of heart out there today. They refused to give up and played the No. 5 team in the nation off their feet. Our best tennis is ahead of us."
The Lady Rebels will return to the court when they host Southeastern Conference rival Kentucky on Saturday, Feb. 24. The match will start at 1 p.m.
