Ole Miss Golf Prepares For Gator Invitational

OXFORD, Miss.-- After posting an 11th place finish at the Ping-Arizona Intercollegiate on Jan. 30-31, the Ole Miss men's golf team is preparing to hit the road again to compete at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., this weekend.
"We're excited about playing in the Gator Invitational," said Ole Miss coach Woody Cowart. "I think that this tournament will be a good test for our team. The field for this tournament is a strong one."
The 14-team field includes: Alabama, UAB, Augusta State, Central Florida, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, North Florida, Ohio State, Purdue, and Vanderbilt.
Competing for Ole Miss at the Gator Invitational will be Troy Muller, Andrew Medley, Brendan Fisher, Tommy Clement, and J.J. Thompson.
Medley, a sophomore from Jackson, Miss., leads the team in stroke average with a 72.46 average. He recorded his best round of the season with a 68 in the third round at the Ping- Arizona Intercollegiate.
At the 2000 Gator Invitational, the Rebels finished in sixth place with a 281-287-277-- 845. Florida captured the tournament title with a 54-hole total of 815.
Following this weekend's action, Ole Miss will be back in action on Feb. 19-20, when they travel to Mandeville, La., to play in the Beau Chene Collegiate, hosted by Southeastern Louisiana.
