PENSACOLA, Fla. - Erin Cooper scored three goals over the weekend as the Ole Miss soccer team defeated South Alabama, 3-1, and fell to Vanderbilt, 2-1, at the Pensacola Samba Classic. The two-time defending SEC Western Division Champions boast a 3-1-1 record this spring.

A freshman from Highlands Ranch, Colo., Cooper notched a pair of goals in the win over USA. Also, sophomore defender Kristin Chapman picked up her first goal of the spring against the Jaguars.

Cooper recorded her fourth score of the season to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead on Vanderbilt. However, the Commodores would answer with two goals in the final 20 minutes for the victory.

"Overall it was a very productive weekend," said UM head coach Steve Holeman. "We played in a new system and were able to work on several aspects of our game. For the second time this spring, we had one of our freshman step up big for us."

Next up for Ole Miss is club team competition this Saturday in Oxford. The Rebels face the Brentwood Lady Express at 4:30 p.m. and the Germantown Fury at 7 at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
