BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - John Engstrom, a redshirt junior on the Ole Miss men's basketball team, was named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, league commissioner Roy Kramer announced Tuesday. This is the third consecutive year that Engstrom was selected to the league's academic honor roll.
"It is great to see John being recognized for his hard work in the classroom," said Ole Miss head coach Rod Barnes. "He is an outstanding student-athlete and a tremendous individual. John has been a great leader for our team on and off the court, and I am proud of him."
A Marketing major at Ole Miss, Engstrom is the seventh player in Rebel basketball history to be named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three straight years. The Paragould, Ark., native, who is a senior academically, has played in nine games this year and received the first start of his career in the Rebels' 105-71 win over Alabama Mar. 3. The 7-footer is averaging 0.9 points and 0.9 boards, while shooting 50 percent from the field. He also has four assists and two blocked shots.
Engstrom, who is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Ole Miss, is a member of the Rebel 3.0 Club, which recognizes student-athletes who maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better.
To be eligible for selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, be a sophomore or higher in academic classification and have passed 24 semester hours toward a degree.

Ole Miss will meet the winner of the Auburn-Tennessee first-round game in the tournament's second round on Friday. The Rebels' second-round game will be televised by Jefferson Pilot.
