BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alex Hartman was named to the 2001 Men's Tennis All-SEC first team in singles, while James Shortall and Kristofer Stahlberg earned All-SEC second team honors in singles and doubles, as the conference awards were announced Wednesday night at the SEC Tournament banquet.

Hartman is one of 12 players to earn All-SEC first team honors. In the latest ITA national rankings, Hartman is one of six SEC players to be ranked among the top 10 coming in at No. 9. Hartman picks up his second All-SEC honor in as many years, as he earned second-team honors last year. The sophomore is currently 10-7 at No. 1 singles.

Shortall earned All-SEC honors for the third consecutive year and for the second time in both singles and doubles. He is ranked No. 28 in singles and No. 16 in doubles with Stahlberg. Shortall owns a 17-4 dual match record. He is a combined 31-8 in singles and doubles this spring.

A first time honoree, Stahlberg is ranked No. 31 in singles with an 18-2 record in dual matches. He is a combined 32-6 in singles and doubles this spring. Stalhberg went 14-0 at No. 3 singles and is 3-1 at his current position, No. 2.

"The SEC is the premier tennis conference in the nation," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "It speaks high of our program to have three players recognized among the `best of the best' in college tennis.

"We are proud of Alex, James and Kristofer for achieving this honor, while also making the SEC Academic Honor Roll," Chadwick added. "They are truly exceptional student-athletes and outstanding representatives of the University of Mississippi."

All three have helped guide the Rebels to a 16-6 overall record, 7-4 in the SEC. The Rebels are the fourth seed in the SEC Championships which begin Thursday in Lexington. Ole Miss has a bye in the first round and will meet the winner of the Kentucky/Vanderbilt match Friday at 3:00 p.m. CT.
