OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team was one of 48 Division I schools to receive the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) All-Academic Team Award for the 2001 season. Individually, rising senior Camilla Gould was named an ITA Scholar Athlete.

This marks the fifth consecutive year for the Lady Rebels to earn this honor. The Lady Rebels are one of two SEC teams on the list and one of only eight teams to finish ranked in the top 35 nationally and receive this distinction.

"This has become a tradition with us, to receive the ITA All-Academic Award, the highest honor that a university can receive for excellence in scholastics," head coach Jerry Montgomery said. "Considering that we compete in the toughest conference (SEC) in the country, this is a noteworthy accomplishment. It is also significant to me that this is the fifth year in a row that we have received this award. This is a tribute to the players, our support staff and the faculty of the University of Mississippi."

The All-Academic Award is open to teams who boast a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale). The Lady Rebels registered an overall GPA of 3.53 for the year ranking highest among all intercollegiate sports at Ole Miss. Six members of the team made the Chancellor's Honor Roll in the spring.

Gould, a native of Montgomery, Ala., is among 109 Division I women's tennis players to be recognized as an ITA Scholar Athlete. To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior on the squad and maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

A regular on the Chancellor's Honor Roll, Gould posted a 3.76 GPA for the year and made the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the second time in her career.

The Lady Rebels ended the year ranked No. 31 in the nation and earned the program's ninth bid to the NCAA Championships. They defeated LSU 4-1 in the first round before falling to eventual champion Stanford in the second round.
