Allstate Student Athlete of the Week: Elizabeth Hoffman
9/6/2001 | Women's Golf
Sept. 6, 2001
On many afternoons, Elizabeth Hoffman hits the golf links for practice or to lead the Lady Rebels into competition. Unlike many contestants on a current popular television show, Hoffman has proven she is not "The Weakest Link" when it comes to her performance on the golf course and in the classroom.
Hoffman is the lone senior on the Ole Miss golf team this season and boasts the most experience with 57 rounds played the past two years. The Kingwood, Texas, native posted two top-20 finishes last season, including a sixth-place showing at the Lady Rebel Intercollegiate. As a sophomore in 1999-2000, she also had two top-20 finishes and posted the squad's fourth-best stroke average.
Before transferring to Ole Miss, Hoffman earned NAIA All-America honors as a freshman at Texas Lutheran University. In her only season at Texas Lutheran in 1998-99, she won the individual crown at the NAIA National Championships, while leading her team to a second-place national finish.
Hoffman's accomplishments on the golf course are only surpassed by her performance in the classroom.
The senior was named to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, while earning Chancellor's Honor Roll (3.75-4.00 GPA) accolades her entire career at Ole Miss. Hoffman was named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll her junior year. A member of Gamma Beta Phi honor society, Hoffman was awarded the German Governor's Award for the top second-year German student. She is an English major and pursuing a minor in Business.
Most recently, Hoffman became only the fourth Lady Rebel in program history to be named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team, a high accomplishment for any golfer because of its stringent requirements.
For excellence in both golf and academics, Elizabeth Hoffman is this week's Allstate Insurance Student Athlete of the Week.
