Ole Miss Soccer Picks Up Overtime Win Over UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss' Michaela Collins connected from 25 yards in double overtime to give the Rebels a 2-1 win over UAB Friday in day one of the UAB Nike Classic. Ole Miss (1-2) continues tournament action Sunday, facing TCU at 10 a.m. CST.
A junior midfielder from Lakeland, Fla., Collins picked up her fifth career goal and first in two years, kicking from right top of the box to the left corner of the net, at 107:17. Freshman Kristal Menard, who led all players in shots with six, picked up the assist.
Tiffany Weiss scored the Rebels' first goal of the season at the 63:59 mark to even the game at 1-1. Weiss, a sophomore forward from Dallas, fired a line-drive from 20 yards away off a direct kick by freshman Lindley Beckman.
UAB(0-3) took to the scoreboard in the 14th minute with Denise Peters booting a deflected ball over Rebel goalkeeper Melinda Smith from 16 yards out.
With shots even at 5-5 at halftime, the Rebels took to the offensive in the second frame, and finished the game with a 21-9 edge.
