Women's Tennis Takes Care of SMU 5-2

OXFORD, Miss. - Mark Beyers earned his first victory as the head coach of the Ole Miss women's tennis team, as the Lady Rebels took care of visiting SMU 5-2 Friday afternoon at the Gillom Sports Center.
The Lady Rebels, ranked No. 33 in the nation, got off to a solid start by claiming all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Alesya Ignatieva and sophomore Audra Adams teamed up for a convincing 8-3 win over Nadie Vaughan and Linsie Jones at the top spot.
It didn't take long for Ole Miss to earn its first victory of the season. Mira Radu, ranked No. 25 in the nation, cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kit Carson at No. 1 singles to notch her 20th victory of the year. Karem Harboe downed Vaughan 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles to make it 3-0 Lady Rebels and then Ignatieva finished off SMU's Jenny Langer 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot, to clinch the win.
Sophomore Florencia Basile lost the first set against the Mustangs' Jones, but rallied in dominating fashion for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
Ole Miss will host New Orleans Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
