Ole Miss Basketball Completes First Week Of Practice

OXFORD, Miss. - Junior forward Justin Reed scored eight points to lead the Red squad to a 24-16 win in a short 20-minute intra-squad scrimmage that ended Saturday's two-hour practice.
Derrick Allen, Aaron Harper and David Sanders each added four points for the Red team. John Gunn and Emmanuel Wade each had two points to round out the Red scoring. For the White squad, senior Richard Kirklin and freshman Patrick Field scored five points apiece. Jonathan Loe had four points, while Cavadas Nunnery added two points for the White team.
According to Ole Miss head coach Rod Barnes, the first week of practice was good for the Rebels, and the scrimmage showed areas where the team needs to improve.
"We wanted to see where we are and what areas we need to work on," Barnes said. "We have a lot of work to get done. Our veterans know what we're doing, and I'm pleased with them. Our newcomers need to continue to get better, but that's what I expect at this time of the year. I like what I see as far as our effort and intensity.
"It's been a really good week of practice for us. After we take Sunday off, we'll be back out on the court and see if we can improve on what we have in place. We threw a lot of things at them this week, and our younger kids picked up on what we're doing. But, after we watch the tape of today's scrimmage, we'll be able to see where we truly are."
The Rebels will continue preseason drills on Monday. On Oct. 26, Ole Miss basketball will hold the Rod Barnes' Coaching Clinic. Ole Miss will host its first exhibition game Nov. 9 against West Alabama. Game time for that exhibition is 7:00 p.m. (CT) at Tad Smith Coliseum. The Rebels' regular-season opener is set for Nov. 24 at East Carolina.
