Rifle Team Takes Third At United States Military Academy

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Ole Miss rifle team closed out the fall season with a third place finish at a tri-meet with Army and West Virginia with a aggregate score of 6060 in air rifle. The meet was hosted by the United States Military Academy.
The Rebels turned in a score of 1514 in air rifle and a 4546 in smallbore at the event for the final result of 6060. The total but Ole Miss behind West Virginia, who fired a 4672-1542-6214, and Army with a 4648-1523-6171.
Despite the third place finish overall, the Rebels saw strong performances on an individual basis once again as Megan Sandage led the squad in scoring in both events, firing a 386 in air rifle and a personal best 1158 in smallbore. The 1158 finished two points shy of the school record held by sophomore Shanda Duval. Sandage's air rifle score put her fourth overall in the standings and her smallbore score put her in eighth.
Sophomore Megan Roberts turned in the second best finish for the squad in air rifle, firing a 377 while chipping in an 1130 in the smallbore. Freshman Samantha Leach came in third in the scoring standings for Ole Miss with a 376 in air rifle, but did not compete in the smallbore portion of the competition for the scoring squad.
Freshman Laura Gavin filled in for Leach in the smallbore, shooting a score of 1122 to help push the squad. Duval fired the second best score on the squad in smallbore, turning in an 1136, while adding a375 to the scoreboard in air rifle.
Competing as individuals for Ole Miss were team captain Maranda Stockton and junior Kristin Parker. Parker fired a 377 in air rifle while notching an 1139 in smallbore. Stockton scored an 1104 in smallbore on the day while also recording a 377 in air rifle. Gavin competed as an individual in air rifle for the Rebels, recording a mark of 375, while Leach fired an 1114 in the smallbore.
