Lady Rebel Netters Have Tough Day At No. 9 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - ,The 36th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team faced the No. 9 University of Texas Longhorns Sunday afternoon at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center and found the going tough, as they lost 7-0.
The Longhorns took a 1-0 lead winning the doubles point. Texas claimed the No. 1 spot 8-3, but the Lady Rebels fought valiantly at the other two positions, as Florencia Basile and Karem Harboe won 9-8(5) at the No. 2 spot against Kaysie Smashey and Lindsay Blau. At No. 3 doubles, the Longhorn team, ranked 44th, won a close 9-7 match to clinch the point.
In singles, Ole Miss' Mira Radu, ranked No. 25 in the nation, lost her first dual match of the season, when she had to retire down 6-3, 3-0 to 19th-ranked Vladka Uhlirova, due to injury. At No. 2 singles, Harboe lost to 78th-ranked Katie Ruckert 6-3, 6-3, and Basile dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to 86th-ranked Smashey at No. 3 singles.
Audra Adams won the first set against her opponent, 79th-ranked Blau 7-6(4), but lost the next two 6-1, 10-7 at the No. 4 spot. Senior Camilla Gould fell to Rebekah Forney 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and freshman Agathe DeRouck went down 6-1, 6-3 to Ziva Grasic, rounding out the scoring.
The Lady Rebels return to action in two weeks, when they will begin a four-match homestand March 1 against No. 3 Florida.
