OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss soccer team has strengthened its 2002 defense with the signing of Brandon, Miss., native Kathryn White to a national letter of intent, as announced Tuesday by Rebel head coach Steve Holeman.

The 5-9 White was a 2001 All-State first team selection at Brandon High School, where she was team captain and voted most valuable midfielder. White helped the Jackson Futbol Club to three state championships and twice earned the MYSA Fair Player Award. She also competed on the BHS softball, track and basketball squads, and will graduate in the top 15 percent of her class.

"Kathryn is one of the top players in the state of Mississippi," Holeman said. "She is a solid, tenacious player who will provide us depth in the defense. She brings good size and athleticism."

White raises the list of 2002 soccer signees to seven, including Hillary Beckman (Anchorage, Ky.), Katie Bindner (Goshen, Ky.), Ashley Hanne (Franklin, Tenn.), Megan Morton (Auburndale, Fla.) and All-Americans Brittney Potts (Franklin, Tenn.) and Lyndsey Williams (Germantown, Tenn.).

Ole Miss finished the 2001 campaign with a 10-10-1 mark, giving the club their sixth consecutive season with a .500 or better record. The Rebels became the only SEC Western Division squad to have earned an SEC Tournament berth the past five years, and is the West's winningest team over that stretch.
