Three Lady Rebels Earn All-Academic Collegiate Coaches Award

MURRAY, Ky. - Three members of the Ole Miss rifle team earned recognition for their efforts in the classroom, when they were awarded the All-Academic Collegiate Coaches Award at the NCAA Championships. Misty Ballard, Kristin Parker and Maranda Stockton, all were named as recipients.

Honorees must have a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

"I am very proud of what these ladies have done in the classroom as well as on the firing range," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "All of them received this award last year, so it's not a surprise they were able to repeat the accomplishment. It is exciting to have a majority of our team receive this honor."

Ballard performed well for the Rebels throughout the season as the lone senior on a young squad. The Glenn, Miss., native helped lead the team to several record breaking performances as she 376.8 average in air rifle and an 1123.1 average in smallbore for the season. Ballard posted her career high score in smallbore at the GARC tournament where she fired an 1142. Ballard has posted excellent marks in the classroom as she has been named to the Dean's Honor roll and the UMAA Honor Roll. She is majoring in Pharmacy.

Stockton, a psychology major has excelled in the classroom. The sophomore from Livingston, Tenn., has earned Academic All-SEC honors and has been named to the Chancellor's Honor Roll twice and the Dean's Honor Roll twice during her time at Ole Miss. She is also a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. Stockton posted averages of 374.2 in air rifle and 1091.3 in smallbore this season with the Rebels and served as team captain for the 2001-02 season.

Parker, a sophomore English major from Fort Mill, S.C., has also achieved success in the classroom and on the rifle range. Parker is a member of the McDonnell-Barksdale Honors College and also serves on the Honors College Student Senate. She has been named to the UMAA Honor Roll as well as the Dean's Honor Roll. She posted averages of 375.1 in air rifle and 1126.1 in smallbore to help push the Rebels on the season.
