ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Ole Miss wrapped up its spring soccer season Saturday with a scoreless tie against Auburn. Junior goalkeepers Brittany Gillespie and Heather Wilemon combined on the shutout for the Rebels.

"It was an incredible match in a great environment," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "It was the type of game you would see in the fall. The match was very competitive, and both teams played extremely well. It was a great way to end the spring."

The Rebels closed out the spring with an 11-2-2 record, winning 11 straight at one point. Two-time All-SEC selection Kristin Chapman led Ole Miss in scoring with 11 goals. The junior from Vicksburg, Miss., moved from defender to forward this spring.

Freshman Kelly Renie, who missed with fall with a torn ACL, collected eight goals in her first competition with the Rebels. Kristal Menard added five scores, while Lindley Beckman and Liz Holder each netted a pair.

"We made a lot of progress this season," Holeman said. "Several players got a lot more experience than they did in the fall. Also with the position changes we made, it was great to see that kind of versatility from our team.

"With our improvement and the signees coming in, we feel we'll be ready to compete for the SEC West title in the fall."

Ole Miss finished the 2001 campaign with a 10-10-1 mark, giving the club their sixth consecutive season with a .500 or better record. The Rebels became the only SEC Western Division squad to have earned an SEC Tournament berth the past five years, and is the West's winningest team over that stretch.
