OXFORD, Miss. - Kelly Renie collected three goals and Kristin Chapman added two more to guide the Ole Miss soccer team to a 3-0 mark Saturday in the Rebel Soccer Spring Classic. As part of Red-Blue weekend on the University campus, the Rebels swept three club teams to run their spring record to 8-1-1 with a current seven-game win streak.
Renie netted a pair of goals in a 5-1 stomp of the Jackson Futbol Club. Chapman, a former JFC standout, tacked on a score against her former team, while Kristal Menard picked up her third goal of the season and Karen Hall her first.
Renie and Chapman connected on scores again vs. the Germantown Fury, a 2-1 Rebel victory. After missing the fall with a torn ACL, Renie, a freshman from Carmel, Ind., has broken free for a team-high six goals this spring. A two-time All-SEC defender, Chapman moved to forward this season and has responded with four goals.
Ole Miss recorded its third shutout of the season in the other match, blanking Concorde 1-0. Marietta, Ga., native Liz Holder booted the game-winning score against the club team from Atlanta. She boasts two goals this spring
"Overall it was a great day of soccer for Ole Miss," said Head Coach Steve Holeman, who has piloted the Rebels to the SEC West's best winning percentage over the last five years.
"We have continued to improve throughout the spring and are becoming a better team each game we play. Our defense has been solid, our attack is more consistent, and we are scoring more goals."
Ole Miss hosts spring soccer action again this weekend with its annual 7 Aside Tournament. The 14-team field includes Alabama, Mississippi State, Memphis and a squad comprised of former Rebel players.
