Allstate Student-Athlete Of The Week

9/11/2002 | Rifle

Sept. 11, 2002

It takes intense concentration to focus on a target the size of the period at the end of this sentence and attempt to hit it from a distance of 50 feet. That is what Kristin Parker, a junior on the Ole Miss rifle team, has to do in every competition, and she does it well. Parker also carries that same concentration and focus into the classroom, where she has just as much success.

A Fort Mill, S.C., native, Parker competed in 10 of the Rebels' 11 meets last year, and posted the third-best season scoring averages in both air rifle (375.1) and smallbore (1112.6). She also posted career highs in both events last season, recording a 380 in air rifle at the Walsh Invitational and a 1130 at the GARC Tournament. In her freshman season in 2000-01, she had averages of 371.3 in air rifle and 1108.7 in smallbore.

Parker has been on target in the classroom as well. A member of the McDonnell-Barksdale Honors College, she is an English major and holds a 3.67 grade-point average. Parker earned All-Academic Collegiate Coaches Award distinction at the 2001 and 2002 NCAA Rifle Championships. She also has been named to the Dean's Honor Roll and University of Mississippi Athletic Association (UMAA) Honor Roll during her career.

For excellence in both rifle and academics, Kristin Parker is this week's Allstate Insurance Student-Athlete of the Week.
