OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's golf team opens its fall season this weekend when it travels to Lexington, Ky., for the Lady Kat Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event runs Friday through Sunday at the University Club Golf Course of Kentucky, which is a 6,100/par 72 layout.

The Lady Kat Invitational is back on the women's collegiate golf scene after a seven-year hiatus. The field is comprised of SEC foes Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi State and host Kentucky, along with Cal State Northridge, Illinois State, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Northern Kentucky, Penn State, Richmond and South Florida.

UM head coach Meghan Bolger enters her second year at the helm with a squad heavy in seniors, led by 2001-02 team captain Bernadette Luse. A native of Orlando, Luse has been among the top two on the team in stroke average over the last two years.

New Orleans native Kerrie Davis also returns for her fourth season. Davis has missed only one tournament over the past two years and leads all active Lady Rebels in rounds-played. Lori Cate and Roiann Boisture round out the senior class for an Ole Miss team that also contains four sophomores and a pair of freshmen.

Contending for the Lady Rebels this weekend will be sophomore Nikki Hadd, who topped the team during qualifying, along with Luse, Davis, sophomore Brooke Hixon and freshman Sarah Kate Cousart. Freshman Laura Evans will be competing as an individual.

Ole Miss is back in Lexington at the end of the season for the 2003 SEC Championship. The Lady Rebels face four tournaments in the fall including Tampa's Beacon Woods Invitational, in which Ole Miss is the defending champion. The spring slate features five regular-season events leading up to the conference tournament, April 18-20.

The Beacon Woods crown last fall was Ole Miss' first tournament title in three years and jumpstarted the club's 2001-02 turnaround. The Lady Rebels finished in the top 10 of seven tournaments with five in the top five, and the team improved from 29-85-1 the previous year to 70-60-2 last season.
