OXFORD, Miss. - The short list of undefeated collegiate soccer teams was reduced by one Friday as Ole Miss handed Samford its first loss of the season, 1-0, on the strength of a Kelly Renie goal. The Rebels continue their best start ever at 8-0-1 and are now one of only 13 unbeaten Division I teams.

Ole Miss netted the game's lone score in the 59th minute, producing a flurry of shots in front of the net before finally punched in by Renie for her fifth game-winner. It was the 10th goal of the season for the redshirt freshmen from Carmel, Ind., making her only the sixth Rebel all-time to reach double-figures in single-season goals.

Ole Miss dominated Samford (9-1-1) in the first half with a 7-0 shot advantage, and finished with the night with a 20-5 edge. However, the Bulldogs appeared to have tied the game with less than four minutes remaining. Marian Wagner jumped ahead of the pack to rip the ball to the right side of the net, but Samford was offsides on the play.

UM goalkeeper Brittany Gillespie registered her fourth complete shutout of the year, the Rebels' fifth, and tallied a pair of saves, including a key block inside the final minute. Ole Miss wins its third straight one-goal affair and its fifth of the season.

"It was a great game against a great opponent," said Rebel head coach Steve Holeman. "Samford played hard, and we are very happy to come away with a 1-0 victory. With 20 shots, we wish we could have scored more than once, but we are nevertheless pleased with the win."

The SEC's lone undefeated team next begins league play, as the Rebels host LSU and Arkansas next weekend in Oxford. Ole Miss, who is receiving top-25 votes for the first time ever, takes on LSU Friday at 7:30 p.m. CST and Arkansas next Sunday at 1.
