OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Tennessee freshman Stanley Asumnu scored the game-winner on a put-back basket with 2.6 seconds left Saturday to give the Volunteers a 66-64 victory over Mississippi in Oxford.
Tennessee (8-3, 1-1 in the Southeastern Conference) tied the game at 64-64 on a layup by Jon Higgins with 1:01 to go.
The Volunteers forced Ole Miss (9-4, 0-2) into a shot-clock violation on their ensuing possession, which gave Tennessee the ball with only 23 seconds remaining.
Asumnu fought for the rebound under the Tennessee basketball and the put up the winner. It was Asumnu's second basket of the game.
C.J. Watson and Ron Slay, who fouled out with 2:14 remaining, led Tennessee with 17 points each.
Aaron Harper, who hit six three-pointers, led the Rebels with 23 points. Justin Reed added 14 points.
The loss snapped Ole Miss' 20-game home winning streak that dated back to last season.
