MURRAY, Ky. - The Ole Miss rifle team saw some outstanding shooting from several competitors as the Rebels fired a 1524-4512-6036 to finish seventh at the Withrow Invitational over the weekend. Ole Miss was one of 19 teams competing in the tournament.

"We beat Nebraska, which is always a good win, but we slipped some in our smallbore scoring," said head coach Valerie Boothe. "We're looking to get back on track and start putting high scores in both categories back on the board at the same time."

Shanda Duval led the team on the day, with the best performance of the day in smallbore with an 1142. She also pushed the squad with a 381 in air rifle for a combined score of 1523 on the day.

Megan Sandage continued to post scores to help keep her in the race for All-America honors, as the freshman scored a 387 in air rifle, one point shy of the school record. She also posted a solid score in smallbore, notching an 1133 to earn a final score of 1520.

Both players finished in the top-20 on the day. Duval finished 18th in the overall standings, while Sandage finished 19th overall in the standings.

Kristin Parker scored above her average to help push the team to its top-10 finish as the junior recorded an 1125 in smallbore and a 376 in air rifle. The two scores gave Parker an overall score of 1501 for the event.

Megan Roberts rounded out the scoring for Ole Miss. The sophomore fired an 1112 in smallbore and a personal best 380 in air rifle on the way to a combined final score of 1492. The 380 is a career-high for Roberts, who beat her previous best of 377 set earlier in the year at Army.

Maranda Stockton, the lone senior on the squad, was the one of two Ole Miss players to compete as an individual in the meet. She fired a 378 in air rifle on the afternoon. Stockton did not compete in smallbore. Laura Gavin competed in smallbore, turning in a score of 1118 on the afternoon. She did not compete in air rifle.

The Rebels will return to competition February 9, 2003, in competition at the NCAA Collegiate Sectional in Murray, Ky.
