Rebels Claim First Dual Match Of Season Over UT-Martin

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss used a record breaking performance in smallbore, firing a 4571 to push to the first dual match win of the season over UT-Martin on Saturday behind the solid shooting of Shanda Duval and Jennifer Lorenzen.
The Rebels combined the 4571 in smallbore with a 1510 in air rifle to knock off the Skyhawks from UT-Martin and move to 1-0 in dual matches on the season.
"I am impressed with what we were able to do in smallbore today," said head coach Valerie Boothe. "Shanda Duval and Jennifer Lorenzen really answered the challenge and helped carry us to the win. We need to work on getting our air scores up, and when we do that, we will be in good shape."
Duval, a junior on the team, fired an 1157 in smallbore to take the top spot in the individual standings with the score. She also fired a 383 in air rifle to help push the Rebels to the win, finishing second in the standings in air rifle.
Jennifer Lorenzen combined her career-high 1154 in smallbore with a 370 in air rifle to play a major part in helping set the new school mark. Lorenzen finished third in smallbore.
Laura Gavin fired an 1133 in smallbore, while recording a 371 in air rifle to help Ole Miss to the dual match win. Mara Polonsky added a score of 372 in air rifle and an 1109 in smallbore to help the squad in the scoring for the victory, while Jessica McClain turned in a score of 354 in air and 1087 in smallbore.
Samantha Leach returned to action with a solid performance, firing a 379 in air rifle for the Ole Miss Blue squad on the day. She did not compete in smallbore.
Natasha Phillips competed in her first competition for the Rebels, firing a 341 in air rifle.
Ole Miss will return to action again, facing Tennessee Tech and Xavier on the road October 18.
