BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss' Justin Reed was named to the Preseason All-SEC second team Wednesday, as voted on by media attending the league's basketball media days.
Reed, a senior forward, has earned All-SEC honors each of his three collegiate seasons. As a junior in 2002-03, Reed averaged 15.4 points and 5.3 rebounds and became only the ninth player in Ole Miss history to tally 1,200 career points and 550 boards.
The Jackson, Miss., native was a preseason Wooden Award candidate each of the last two seasons, and is the only player from the state of Mississippi to be nominated twice.
Reed and his Rebel teammates host Southeastern All-Stars in exhibition action Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. CT at Tad Smith Coliseum.
Rod Barnes' sixth season as Ole Miss head coach opens Nov. 21 against Arkansas State in Oxford. Barnes has guided the Rebels to 100 win over the past five years, the most victories in a five-year span in school history.
