CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Ole Miss men's tennis players Paul Ciorascu and Claes Lindholm advanced from the final day of qualifying at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships on Wednesday to the main draw doubles, which begins Thursday at the Champions Club.
Ciorascu and Lindholm defeated Brandon Allan and Kai Schledorn of Middle Tennessee 8-5 in the final round of qualifying. They will face the top seed in the tournament, brothers Richard and William Barker of Rice University, in the first round of the main draw Thursday.
In the final round of qualifying singles, Lindholm lost to Federico Ueltschi of Montana State 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Ironically, Rebel sophomore Catalin Gard, ranked No. 9 in the nation, will face Ueltschi in the first round of main draw singles. Gard comes into the tournament with a 2-0 record including a win over the nation's No. 8 player. Ciorascu, ranked No. 18, will square off against Southern Cal's Johan Berg.
The Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships, the largest single tournament in the country, offers the first national singles and doubles titles of the season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May. Thirty-six of the top 40 players in the preseason ITA national singles rankings highlight this year's main draw, including nine of the top 10.
