OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss basketball team inked its third signee of the early signing period Friday, receiving a national letter of intent from Bobby Clark, a 6-foot-6, 195-pound guard from Jackson, Miss.
Clark is a two-time All-State selection at nationally-ranked Lanier High School, where he has attended the last two years. At Lanier, Clark averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists during his sophomore campaign, and last year, he posted 15 points, seven boards and seven assists per game as a junior.
Clark has been a varsity starter since his freshman season at Callaway High School. He turned in season averages of 17 points, six rebounds and eight assists, before transferring from Callway to Lanier following his ninth-grade year.
Clark's playing career also extends to the AAU ranks where he was a member of the Jackson Tigers. He is rated the 106th-best prep prospect in the nation and 22nd-best shooting guard by Rivals.com.
"It's always exciting to sign another player from our home state, and we're fortunate to find someone with Bobby's athleticism and scoring capability," said Ole Miss head coach Rod Barnes. "He brings perimeter scoring and great potential. He's a good kid that should fit in well here and be successful. We're very appreciative of his commitment to our program."
Clark joins Arkansas natives Jeremy Parnell, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound forward/center from Gosnell, and Brandon Patterson, a 6-foot-6, 180-pound swingman from Altheimer, as the Rebels' early signees. The trio will attend Ole Miss beginning in the 2004-05 academic year.
Ole Miss continues preseason play with Carson-Newman College Saturday at 2 p.m. in Oxford. The Rebels officially open the new campaign against Arkansas State, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum.
