OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss faces one more test before tipping off the 2003-04 basketball campaign. The Rebels host the second of two exhibitions Saturday, taking on Carson-Newman College at 2 p.m. CT at Tad Smith Coliseum.

The new season officially begins for the Rebels Nov. 21 against Arkansas State at 7 p.m. in Oxford.

Ole Miss is coming off a 103-91 beating of Southeastern All-Stars Tuesday in the team's first preseason game. Aaron Harper led all scorers with 25 points to go with eight rebounds, while fellow senior forward Justin Reed followed with 21 points and seven boards.

This year's Ole Miss lineup features seven new faces, and several of them were impressive in their first night wearing the Red and Blue. Marvin Moore, a junior transfer from Southern Union State Community College in Alabama, posted a double-double off the bench with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Rebel starting backcourt Tuesday was comprised of a pair of exciting freshmen in Bam Doyne and Todd Abernethy. Little Rock's Doyne totaled 12 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Carmel, Ind., native Abernethy added four assists and two steals.

JUCO transfers Ed Glass and Tommie Eddie were also productive with six assists and eight points, respectively.

Ole Miss poured on the offense against the Southeastern All-Stars in explosive fashion with 103 points and 54-percent shooting. The Rebels hit the century mark in points only once over the last four seasons in a 105-71 whipping of Alabama in 2001.

Carson-Newman is coming off a 20-9 campaign and an NCAA Sweet 16 finish in the Division II national tournament. The defending South Atlantic Conference champion Eagles return seven letterwinners and two starters from a year ago, including assist-leader Braun Dabbs.
