Gard Falls In Second Round At ITA National Indoor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Ole Miss men's tennis player Catalin Gard lost in the second round of the ITA National Indoor Championships Friday, ending his fall campaign at 5-3. Gard, seeded No. 6 in the tournament, lost to 17th-ranked Benjamin Becker of Baylor 6-2, 6-3.
Gard defeated 25th-ranked Conor Niland of California in the opening round of the national indoor. Two of Gard's losses this fall have come against nationally-ranked players, while he has a win over the No. 9 player. Gard earned All-America and All-SEC honors in 2003, as he helped the Rebels capture their second consecutive SEC Western Division Championship and advance to the NCAA Elite Eight.
The ITA National Indoor features a 32-player draw in singles and a 16-team doubles field. Of the 32 players in the singles field, 15 are ranked in the preseason Top 25.
