OXFORD, Miss. - Following an NCAA Tournament second-round finish, the Ole Miss soccer team continues to pile up postseason honors, as a pair of Rebels have earned All-Region honors. Kristal Menard was named to the NSCAA Central Region first team, while Amy Sample claimed second team honors.
Menard, a junior midfielder, nabbed All-Region accolades in addition to All-SEC first team honors for the second straight year. The Crestwood, Ky., native led the Rebels and ranked top 10 in the conference in total points (22). She turned in three multiple-assist games and a pair of multiple-goal outings this season. Menard was also an Academic All-Region selection.
Fellow Crestwood midfielder Sample is All-Region for the first time and earlier picked up All-SEC honors for the second year. The senior and two-time team captain started all but one match over the last three seasons and saved her best for her final campaign. This year, Sample recorded a career-high 17 points and nine assists, which was third-best in the SEC. She posted her first career three-assist game against Southeast Missouri and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory at Tennessee. Sample also received Academic All-American honors.
At least one Rebel has been chosen All-Region each of the last six years.
Ole Miss turned in its most successful season as a program in the fall. The Rebels, who rose as high as No. 21 in the national rankings, earned their second straight NCAA Tournament berth and advanced to the second round with an opening win over Texas. With a 15-6-2 mark, Ole Miss recorded its most single-season victories and finished top four in the SEC overall for the second straight year.
