OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss has added three more names to its 2003 soccer roster to complete its signing class. The Rebels have received national letters of intent from Tennessee natives Allie Etter and Ashley Ferree and Texan Megan Miles.
Germantown's Etter is one of four Tennesseans inked by the Rebels this spring. A 5-8 midfielder/defender and three-time team MVP at Evangelical Christian School, Etter was twice named All-State and was a 2001 finalist for the Commercial Appeal Soccer Player of the Year. She also helped guide ECS to state semi-final finishes as a sophomore and junior.
"Allie is one of those players that coaches call a natural," said Ole Miss assistant coach Derek Greene. "She has a rare tactical understanding of the game that you do not see from many players her age. Her ability to read the game will make her a great fit for the style of soccer we like to play."
Ferree was the 2002 Wendy's High School Heisman winner for Tennessee. The 5-3 midfielder/defender was a two-time All-State selection at Cordova High School and was named All-South as a senior.
Ferree has spent the last four years as part of Tennessee ODP, where she was coached by both Greene and Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. Ferree also played club soccer alongside Etter and fellow Rebel signee Emily Brown with the '85 Fury Premier.
"Ashley is one of the most fit and determined athletes we have ever seen," Greene said. She has been an outstanding cross country runner and soccer player since she was very young, and we know she will make a tremendous impact on our team."
A 5-6 defender/midfielder from Dallas, Miles was a four-year starter and 2003 team captain at Lake Highlands High School. She was a three-year starting defender for Soar '85, which is one of the top club teams in the Dallas area, while also playing for the NTX State team.
"Megan is another wonderful athlete," Greene said. "She has awesome speed and brings more composure to our lineup. She is going to have the opportunity to fight for a starting spot right away, and we are excited for her to make an immediate impact."
This threesome raises the Rebels' list of 2003 signees to seven, including Brown (Memphis, Tenn.), Elise Karlowicz (Katy, Texas), Kaela Kelly (Hisperia, Calif.) and Ann Shelton (Tullahoma, Tenn.).
This group joins a Rebel team that is coming off its most successful season, finishing it off with their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. With a 13-5-2 record, Ole Miss registered its best single-season winning percentage (.700) and ranked top three in the SEC overall standings for the first time.
