Rebel Soccer Dismantles Club Teams

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss continued its spring soccer season Saturday by going 3-0 against club teams, including two wins over squads from the Germantown Fury. The Rebels are 5-1 on the spring.
Freshmen Hillary Beckman and Kelly Renie netted three goals apiece to lead Ole Miss on the day. They also contributed to a Rebel defense that surrendered no goals and only three shots total in the three games. Ole Miss outshot the teams, 50-3.
Beckman struck twice in a 3-0 victory over the Fury '85 team in the early match. The midfielder from Anchorage, Ky., headed in a Brittney Potts cross and later connected with the net off a pass from Kristal Menard. Lindley Beckman set up Renie, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, for the final score.
Renie, the reigning SEC Freshman of the Year, also notched a goal in a 4-0 shutout of Fury '86, sending in a Leigh Barrow serve. Hillary Beckman tallied a pair of assists in the game, setting up goals by Karen Hall and Ashley Hanne. Menard, an All-SEC first team midfielder, also chipped in with a score.
The Rebels finished the day with 7-0 whipping of Lafreniere Sting '86 from Louisiana. Menard, Lindley Beckman and Laura Price each recorded a goal and an assist. Hall directed in an Amy Sample pass, while Potts blasted home an 18-yard shot from the corner. Renie picked up her team-high fourth goal of the season, and Hillary Beckman posted her third.
"It was nice to play against outside competition after a three-week layoff," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "The team played very well and did a great job of finishing their scoring chances. Our defense was solid in only allowing three shots for the day, and our midfield did an outstanding job of controlling the tempo and rhythm of each game."
The Rebels continue the spring with a home match against a squad of Ole Miss soccer alumni this Saturday as part of Red-Blue Weekend. Game time is 11 a.m. CST at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
