BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss had 15 of its student-athletes honored Thursday on the 2002 SEC Women's Soccer Academic Honor Roll, as announced by league Commissioner Mike Slive. For the fifth straight year, the Rebel soccer squad ranks among the top four in the conference in selections.
Graduate Anna Sanders from Fayetteville, Ark., and redshirt-junior Heather Wilemon from Tupelo, Miss., received their third selection. Senior and Vicksburg, Miss., native Kristin Chapman, who was also a 2002 Verizon Academic All-District pick, nabbed the honor for the second straight year.
Among the first-time award-winners were juniors Erin Edmundson (Raleigh, N.C.), Brittany Gillespie (Modesto, Calif.) and Amy Sample (Crestwood, Ky.) and sophomores Leigh Barrow (Guntersville, Ala.), Lindley Beckman (Anchorage, Ky.), Karen Hall (Southlake, Texas), Kristal Menard (Crestwood, Ky.), Laura Price (Memphis, Tenn.) and Ramey Rush (Meridian, Miss.).
Sample, Barrow and Beckman all recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs, and Barrow and Rush were Academic All-District choices.
Redshirt-freshman Kelly Renie (Carmel, Ind.), senior student assistant coach Tiffany Weiss (Dallas, Texas) and former Rebel Erin Cooper (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) were also named to the SEC Honor Roll.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: 1) have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for their career; 2) be a sophomore or higher in academic classification; and 3) have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree.
The 2002 SEC Women's Soccer Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2001-02 academic calendar.
