Lady Rebels Hold Fifth, Polonich In Third At Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. - Jade Polonich turned in a strong first day, firing a 69-74--143 and holding down third place after the first two rounds of action, to lead the Ole Miss women's golf team at the Cougar Classic on Monday.
The Lady Rebels fired a 301-302--603 for the first two rounds of action to hold the fifth place spot before the final round on Tuesday. The tournament is being played at Yeaman's Hall, a par-72, 6,026-yard course.
"It's exciting to see that we have carried the momentum from our first tournament into this one," said head coach Meghan Bolger. "Jade Polonich has really stepped up her game for us and led us through the first round. We have to come out tomorrow and focus on closing the gap and gaining some more ground on the leaders."
Polonich held a share of the overall lead after the first round, but slipped to third after the second round with her score of 74.
Freshman Adrienne White cut two strokes off her score from the first round, jumping up to hold a share of the 21st spot in the standings with her score of 76-74--150.
Nikki Hadd, a junior on the squad, followed right behind White in the standings, carding a score of 75-76--151 to tie for the 24th position in the individual standings.
Freshman Katie Davidson fired an 82-78--160 to tie for 55th overall, while sophomore Laura Evans carded an 81-80--161 to round out the scoring for Ole Miss. Evans is tied for 60th overall.
Play will conclude on Tuesday with the final round.
