Getting off to a good start is something Todd Abernethy knows a little about. The Ole Miss basketball player began his collegiate career in 2003-04 with an impressive rookie campaign, earning SEC All-Freshman Team honors.

Abernethy started all 28 games of his first season in the Red and Blue and was the only Rebel to start every game. He was second on the team in assists and also ranked second among SEC freshman in dimes at 2.86 per game. The 6-foot-1 point guard had a season-high seven assists with no turnovers against Georgia, and recorded six assists and no turnovers against Florida. Abernethy led the team or tied for the team lead in assists 11 times last season.

Abernethy also pitched in on the scoring, finishing third on the team in points. He scored a season-high 12 points against Mississippi State at home. He also made a good stand against the Bulldogs in Starkville, tallying 10 points along with two steals. Abernethy posted 10 points with a pair of three-pointers against LSU.

The Carmel, Ind., native has been just as impressive in the classroom. Abernethy was named to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll in 2003-04. The Liberal Arts major also made the Chancellor's Honor Roll for the fall and the UMAA Honor Roll for the spring.
