PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Ole Miss women's tennis senior Chloe Carlotti ended her run at the ITA Riviera All-American Championships Friday, falling to Northwestern's top freshman Audra Cohen in the second round at the Riviera Country Club.
Carlotti, ranked No. 43 in the nation, dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Cohen, who was the top junior player in the United States. Cohen was playing for the seventh straight day and has advanced to the semifinals in her first major collegiate tournament.
"Chloe had some chances in the match with break points to win games, but she couldn't capitalize," assistant coach Whitt Taber said. "Cohen has played unbelievable the past seven days and is still moving through the draw and beating some of the top players in the country."
A two-time All-American, Carlotti is off to a 4-1 start, including Thursday's big win over No. 6 ranked Alice Barnes (Stanford) in the first round of the main draw. In her four matches, Carlotti defeated four nationally-ranked opponents.
"We are extremely pleased with the leadership Chloe has shown this fall," Taber added. "She has been fantastic in being a leader for our team with her work ethic and drive to succeed. We expect only great things in the future from Chloe."
Next up for Carlotti will be the ITA South Region Championships Oct. 22-25 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
