OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Ole Miss' Justin Reed has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 6 first team, the organization announced Wednesday. This is the third-straight year Reed has received All-District honors.
Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, the 150 student-athletes, from 15 districts, are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Team to be announced at the conclusion of the 2003-2004 NCAA men's basketball season.
Joining Reed on the first team was Florida State's Tim Pickett, Miami's Darius Rice, Florida's Anthony Roberson and Mississippi State's Lawrence Roberts.
Reed, a senior from Jackson, Miss., ranks second in the SEC in scoring (18.5) and fifth in rebounding (7.8). The three-time All-SEC forward has posted four double-doubles and nine games with 20 or more points, including a career-high 32 in a Rebel win over No. 23 South Carolina.
Reed, who is the only two-time Wooden Award candidate ever from the state of Mississippi, garnered SEC Player of the Week and SEC Good Works Team Player of the Week honors on Jan. 26, and was earlier this season, named as one of 30 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, presented to the nation's top senior male Division I player.
Reed recently became only the fifth Rebel to rank top 10 in both career points and rebounds, and he needs only seven more points to enter Ole Miss' all-time top five scorers.
The Rebels (12-10, 4-7 SEC) return to action Saturday as they host Florida at 7 p.m. CT at Tad Smith Coliseum. Ole Miss will be looking to extend its home win streak to five games. The matchup will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
