AUBURN, Ala. - The 27th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team won a huge doubles point and then carried the momentum into singles play, on their way to a 5-2 victory over Auburn Sunday afternoon at the Luther Young Tennis Complex. With the win, the Lady Rebels improved to 7-5 overall and 1-3 in the SEC, while Auburn fell to 6-6 and 1-3 in conference play.

The Lady Rebels have now won 13 of the last 15 meetings against the Tigers, including back-to-back wins.

"Any time you get an SEC win on the road it's great," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We got off to a great start, winning the doubles and then we jumped on them (Auburn) early on courts five and six. We never really gave them a chance to get back in the match. Now we have two non-conference matches, which should give us some confidence."

Ole Miss won at all three positions in doubles to take the early 1-0 lead. After claiming the No. 2 spot 9-7, Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis won a tiebreaker, 9-8(5) against the Auburn tandem of Petra Bercik and Carolina Ramirez at the top spot to clinch the point. They are now 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Senior Florencia Basile dominated Sarah Suitor, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles to make it 2-0 Lady Rebels. She improved to 10-2 in dual matches and has won 10 of her last 12 matches. Tomatis increased the lead to 3-0, when she downed Liz Sauerborn 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 position.

Carlotti, ranked No. 96 in the nation, defeated Auburn's Petra Bercik, 6-3, 6-4, to clinch the win and snap a two-match losing streak.

With the match already decided, freshman Emily Ladyman beat AU's Nancy Peaden in three sets on court six to make it 5-0. Auburn came back to win on court three and then also picked up a win at No. 2 singles for the final 5-2 score.

The Lady Rebels will step out of conference play to host Middle Tennessee Wednesday at 2 p.m. before facing New Orleans Sunday at 1 p.m.
