OXFORD, Miss. - Led by Brittney Potts and Kelly Renie, the current Ole Miss soccer team dismantled a squad of past Rebel stars 5-1 Saturday in the program's annual alumni match.
"The entire alumni weekend was a huge success," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "The current Rebel team continued to play some of its best soccer of the spring in a solid performance against a very talented alumni squad.
"The game itself was a wonderful display of quality soccer combined with a very fun environment. It was great to see all of the returning players and many are already making plans for next year's event."
Potts netted the first goal off a Renie pass and later connected on her team-high fifth goal of the spring on a Lindley Beckman cross. Renie posted her two goals off assists by Karen Hall and Ashley Hanne. Using a direct kick, Kristal Menard added her third goal of the offseason.
In their last match against Southern Miss, the Rebels also posted five goals in the win on two scores each by Potts and Renie and one by Menard.
The alumni team picked up its lone goal in the game's final five minutes as Jenny Curry-Boone (1996-99) buried a deflected shot in the back of the net. Other Rebel alumni participating in the match included former All-SEC players Kristin Chapman(2000-02), Brittany Gillespie(2000-03), Amy Sample(2000-03) and Jennifer Solieau(1997-2000) along with Courtney Biddle(1999-2003), Michelle Dubuc(1995-98), Amy Lucas(1996-99), Aelish McCreary(1997-98), Mary Ann Moss(1997-98), Jessica O'Neill(1997-2000), Brooke Riley(1996-99), Anna Sanders(1999-2002), Regan Scanlon-Beierman(1997-2000), Sara Schauberger(1997-2000), Holly Strachan-Henserling(1995-96) and Tammy Zegledi(1995-98).
