OXFORD, Miss. - The Rebel soccer team wrapped up a strong finish to its spring season by winning the Ole Miss Club Team Invitational last weekend with victories over the Baton Rouge Soccer Club 4-2 and the Germantown Fury 3-1.

Sophomore Kelly Renie, who missed the fall with a torn ACL, keyed the Rebel attack with three goals on the day, including two against the Fury. Germantown native and former Fury member Sammi Gould added the other goal.

Against BRSC, Renie was joined in the scoring column by Brittney Potts, Karen Hall and Ashley Hanne. It marked Potts' seventh goal of the spring, tying her with fellow forward Renie for the team lead.

"Our team seemed to have a difficult time adjusting to the early game and it took us awhile to find a rhythm," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "We did a nice job finishing our scoring opportunities but were a little inconsistent defensively. Baton Rouge is a very talented team and presented us with a great challenge. We played with more focus vs. Germantown and had more of a complete game"

The Rebels prevailed in their final four matches of their offseason competition to conclude the spring with a 5-2-2 record in full-squad action.

"It was great to finish our spring season," Holeman said. "Our objective for the spring was to prepare us for the upcoming fall, and we accomplished that. There is no question that we are excited about this fall season. With the talent we have returning combined with a solid group of newcomers, we are looking for another successful campaign."

The productive spring comes on the heels of the program's most successful season last fall. Ole Miss earned its second straight NCAA Tournament berth and advanced to the second round with an opening win over Texas.

With a 15-6-2 mark, the Rebels recorded their most single-season victories and finished top four in the SEC overall for the second straight year. Ole Miss also became the first school from Mississippi to crack the top-25 national rankings and rose as high as No. 21.
