Rebel Netters Have Tough Time At Southern Intercollegiates

ATHENS, Ga. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team continued to have a tough time at the Southern Intercollegiates at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, Saturday.
Out of the singles main draw, the Rebels turned their attention to doubles on Saturday. Freshman Bram ten Berge and sophomore Fredrik Aarum teamed up to post an 8-4 win over Clark and Santosa of UNC-Charlotte in the first round. In the second round, the Reb duo lost to the No. 7 seed, Stoke and Rodrigues (Duke) 8-4.
The other Reb duo of sophomore Eric Claesson and junior Juan Pablo Di Cesare, dropped an 8-6 decision to Wilkins and Diankov ( Va. Tech) in their first round match.
Ole Miss had two players advance to the second round in singles, senior Karim Alayli and Di Cesare. Alayli def. Alex Schweizer of Auburn, 4-6, 6-3, 5-5, ret. Then in the second round, he lost to one of Florida's newcomers, Nestor Briceno, 6-2, 6-4.
Di Cesare defeated Shunsuke Shimizu of Tennessee Tech, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Then he lost to the No. 2 seed, South Alabama's Franticek Babej, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round.
Berge won two matches in singles consolation, defeating Duke's Christopher Brown, 6-2, 7-5 and then taking down Mississippi State's Luiz Carvalho, 6-3, 7-5. He will meet Clinton Jacobs of South Alabama in the semifinals of consolation.
This tournament is the South's oldest annual tennis tournament, originating in 1968. It features many of the nation's top players from 27 different schools around the South.
