OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss rifle team opened its 2005 spring schedule on a sour note Saturday afternoon as third-ranked Army posted a 4679-4569 victory over the Rebels at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.

The Black Knights, who improve to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the Great America Rifle Conference, registered a 2349-2304 upper hand in air rifle and 2330-2265 advantage in smallbore.

Army freshman David Amiot took top honors in air rifle (591), while fellow freshman Chris Abalo recorded a first-place effort in smallbore (587).

Ole Miss' top individual was sophomore Jennifer Lorenzen, who finished third in air rifle (588) and seventh in smallbore (574).

Freshman Shannon Wilson added a 573 in air rifle, while sophomore Mara Polonsky posted a 572 and freshman Casey Phillips a 571. Junior Natasha Phillips fired a 568 in smallbore, while junior Samantha Leach turned in a 564 and Wilson a 559.

Ole Miss (3-4 overall) returns to action Jan. 28 when it travels to Murray, Ky., for the Withrow Invitational.
