Rebel Netters Advance To Third Round At ITA Southeast Regional

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Five members of the 2005 SEC Champion Ole Miss men's tennis team advanced to the third round at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the Racquet Club of Memphis Friday. Ole Miss is tied with Florida for the most players (five) left in the 128-player field.

Sophomore Erling Tveit, ranked No. 43 in the nation, had a first round bye and then downed Ondrej Krivka of Southeastern Louisiana, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round. He will face Georgia's Colin Purcell in the third round Saturday.

Junior Eric Claesson also received a first round bye and then held off Troy's Marko Despot, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to earn his 10th win of the fall. He will face Florida's Nestor Briceno in the third round.

After a bye in the first round, sophomore Bram ten Berge handed Fillip Kricka of South Alabama a 6-2, 6-3 loss to advance to a third round meeting against Vladimir Obradovic of Florida. ten Berge became the third Rebel this fall to reach 10 wins.

The lone senior on the team, Juan Pablo Di Cesare was the fourth Rebel to have a bye in the first round. In the second round, he defeated LSU's James Cluskey, 6-3, 7-6. Di Cesare will play the No. 4 seed, Joseph Jung of Alabama, in the third round.

Sophomore Jakob Klaeson defeated Colt Gaston of LSU 6-4, 7-6(4) in the first round and then beat Sebastian Falk of UAB, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 in the second round. Klaeson will face Dirk Britzen of South Florida, who upset the No. 2 seed, Saturday.

In doubles, Ole Miss only had one team competing as two of the three teams were awarded first round byes. Di Cesare and Klaeson dominated Gianfranco Dossena and Maurico Paiz of Florida Atlantic, 8-0 in the first round. Di Cesare and ten Berge, and Tveit and Claesson will begin play Saturday.
