Dwayne Curtis Named Among Nation's Top Hoops Transfers

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss sophomore center Dwayne Curtis has been named one of the nation's top 20 transfers by Athlon Sports in their preseason college basketball annual.
Curtis redshirted last season and practiced with the Rebels after transferring from Auburn in May 2004. As a freshman with the Tigers, he played in 19 games with five starts and averaged 2.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per game. The Chicago, Ill., native shot 58 percent from the field.
Curtis notched a career-high 11 points and six rebounds in 20 minutes at Arkansas in his first career start, and then posted 10 points and a career-high nine boards in 24 minutes at No. 5 Mississippi State. He tallied seven points and six rebounds in the SEC Tournament loss to Georgia.
As a senior at Whitney Young High School, Curtis earned All-City honors from the Chicago Tribune. He averaged a double-double with 18 points and a state-best 12 rebounds per game in helping lead Whitney Young to a 21-5 record and the Sectionals.
Curtis and the Rebels opened preseason workouts on Friday. Ole Miss hosts Spring Hill College in an exhibition on Nov. 11, before tipping off the 2005-06 regular season at the Jim Thorpe Classic Nov. 18-20 in Albuquerque, N.M.
