Lady Rebel Netters Fall At Riviera All-American Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Virginia Tomatis and Ilona Somers dropped their opening round match in the qualifying tournament at the Riviera All-American Championships, 8-0, to 16th-ranked Jenna Long and Sara Anundsen of North Carolina Tuesday at the Riviera Country Club.

The loss marked the first setback on the season for the Lady Rebel duo, ranked No. 29 in the nation.

Sophomore Nika Koukhartchouk was forced to withdraw from the qualifying singles due to an ankle injury. Koukhartchouk, ranked No. 59 in the nation, sprained her ankle during a practice session over the weekend. She was 2-1 coming into the tournament after reaching the finals at the Ole Miss Fall Classic.

Tomatis and Somers will play in consolation doubles Wednesday.
