Ole Miss Rifle Falls To National Power Alaska-Fairbanks

Oxford, Miss. - The Ole Miss rifle team fell to Alaska-Fairbanks on Saturday, at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center, by an aggregate score of 4706-4638.
Alaska-Fairbanks, six time national champions, outscored the Rebels in the air rifle, 2363-2327, and the smallbore competitions, 2343-2311.
Senior Samantha Leach set a career best in the air rifle, with a final score of 587. The Ole Miss top scorer in the smallbore was Junior All-American Jennifer Lorenzen, who finished with a final score of 582.
"It is always great to go against a national power, like Alaska-Fairbanks," said head coach Valerie Boothe, who is in her tenth season at Ole Miss. "This match really shows us the areas we need to improve on, to compete on a national stage."
Ole Miss wrapped up its fall season against Alaska-Fairbanks. The Rebels will resume action on January 22, 2006, when they travel to West Point, N.Y., to face Army.
