OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Bam Doyne scored a career-high 16 points to lead Mississippi in a 59-43 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday.
Ole Miss (4-1) won its third consecutive game as Dwayne Curtis scored 10 points and 12 rebounds. Jermey Parnell added 10 points for the Rebels, who improved to 51-4 against non-conference opponents at home since 1998.
The Rebels led by as many as 27 points in the second half, despite shooting only 16-of-47, 34 percent. Doyne was 4-of-8 from the field and added five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in a complete performance.
Louisiana-Monroe (3-4) was led by Adrian Harper, with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Tony Hooper added 10 points for the Indians who were 19-of-61 from the field, but only 1-of-19 from three-point range.
Ole Miss led 31-12 at halftime after building an insurmountable 22-4 lead in the opening minutes. The Rebels hit five three-point shots in opening surge, including a pair by Todd Abernethy and Doyne.
The Rebels built their biggest lead, 42-15, on a Dwayne Curtis free throw with 14:49 left. Ole Miss managed only 15-of-30 from the free throw line in the second half that allowed the Indians to make a late rally.
Louisiana-Monroe got as close as 51-38 with 4:08 left on a layup by Hooper. Abernethy hit a three-point shot for the Rebels and Louisiana-Monroe never got closer than 15 points again.
The Rebels have not lost to Louisiana-Monroe over the past eight seasons with an average margin of victory of 20 points.
